I have always been under the impression that ever rehabilitation center for substance abusers used essentially the same methods, but apparently I am not just wrong—but really wrong. I've discovered that there are a wealth of variously styled rehabilitation clinics that follow certain schools of thought, methods, etc. I have become especially interested in one rehabilitation center in particular. It is called the Orchid Recovery Center and it is located in sunny South Florida.
They cater specifically to the unique needs of female substance abusers, which means they do not accept male patients. They claim that most rehabilitation centers accept both sexes, and so either one of the sexes, or perhaps both, do not get the treatments they need—the treatments that are specific to their physiological, mental, and emotional attributes. They follow a model set up by Dr. Karen Dodge concerning how interdependence amongst recovering substance abusers can be helpful. In order to achieve this level of interdependence, the women work, live, play, and communicate together at all times.
This develops a sense of trust amongst the women and helps them to rely on each other in a positive way. It also dispels negative self image and guilt, a source of many substance abuse problems for females.
